Noel walked into the room that the Peacekeepers escorted him to, glaring at them. His eyes quickly swept over the room, noticing all the people that were huddled around the punch table in separate groups. They were all awkwardly making small talk, and Noel knew it wasn’t worth his time. Instead, he drifted over to one of the bean bags set up, sitting down in it and taking out a cigarette to smoke it.
Linnea followed the Peacekeepers down the hall the party was being held in. She was more than a little put out that she never had time to plan her own party, and instead had to attend the one hosted by the City, to “congratulate” them on their scores. It was all a joke and she didn’t take well to having things pulled over on her. Entering the room, Linnea saw most of the other tributes hanging around the food, though one of the firebenders—Noel—was sitting on the bean bags. She floated over to the area and plopped down next to him. “Enjoying the festivities, are we?” she joked, dryly.
Quit with the having to feel like you should explain everything to me then. You’re so grim anymore. I..I don’t think I will ever forget that smile.
Repeating things helps make an impression on someone. And yeah? Well, people can forget. Easily.
I knew that all, Noel! I’m not dumb. This all hit me hard when I was walking on stage for my interview. Be positive, Noel. It suits you better to smile.
I never said that. And you want a smile? Here. Take a picture, it’ll last longer, seeing as it won’t reappear for a very long time.
They are the main thing I have to work with. So, I’m going to work with them. We just can’t keep thinking it’s going to be fine. That’s not being realistic.
Fine. You wanna know what will happen? 23 of us will lose our bending, and it’s not even up to us who loses. The Gamemakers are the ones who manipulate the arena to favor specific tributes. But we don’t have much time left, and I’m not going to think negatively about this.
I was talking about for helping to get sponsors! The pretty ones usually get the most attention, don’t they? I know, Noel! I’m going to be attacked by all of the other tributes and we’ll finally get to see what I’m really made of.
Not necessarily, but in your case, yeah. That would work. And I already know what you’re made of. You’ll be fine.
I’m going to be fine. I’ve got my bending and my looks. Which is much more than half of the tributes. I will, thanks. You…be careful too.
Your looks? You do realize we’re going to be living in this arena for a really long time, without showering. I don’t think anyone’s going to pay attention to how you look. And, yeah, yeah. I know.
Just in case some people doubt my ability. Which they shouldn’t. A big ego will get me killed. Don’t think of me as stupid.
I don’t think of you as stupid, you know that. Just… be careful.
I did a good job. Sorry, for being proud of myself.
Obviously you did a good job. Just don’t get a big ego, alright?
Unless this is some new strategy you didn’t inform me of.
I couldn’t be more impressed with my nine!
Really, Ava, I’d expect you to be a little more discreet than that.
Well, you are quite the gentleman tonight
I’m feeling generous.
